QWEST : Charted at 57 on January 14th
So today is payday! Woo-hoo!
Unfortunately my wife spent most of her adolescence watching “Sister Act” in her bedroom, and so when it was announced that Whoopi Goldberg would be taking to the West End stage reprising her role as Delores she simply HAD to have a ticket.
The only tickets available on the date she fancied…were £110…..EACH!! And of course she won’t go on her own…
So I am skint within moments of of being paid and so today’s album needed to be a absolute belter, especially after The Carpenters. I’m happy to call that a false start.
Hello Quincy Jones!
The man who played trumpet for Elvis Presley. The producer of “It’s My Party” The REAL genius behind Thriller…8 years after a brain anuerysm. Rashida’s dad! Heck, his middle name is Delight! Surely this all points in the right direction!
Another omen is that this is a collaboration with some of the greatest names in music…like…ever! Ice-T’s on it, Chaka Khan, Barry White, Ray Charles, it’s even the last recording to feature Ella Fitzgerald.
It was co-written by Cleethorpes legend Rod Templeton and also won 7 Grammy awards.
He was 57 when this was recorded and released and so, of course, he does a rap to start it. Hmmm.
It flows into Ice T’s contribution, “Back On The Block”, which is brilliant…and as it goes on it gets better and better and better.
The stellar guest list is enough to anticipate a classic and it doesn’t disappoint.
30 years later, it sounds like you’d imagine a modern artist would interpret a classic 80’s soul sound…but with Miles bloody Davis!
It’s just joyful and deserves to be bigged up far more than it is.
90% – I’m annoyed it’s taken me 29 years to hear this
